Get Out There and Support your Community!

Volunteering is not only good for the soul, it’s good for making connections and new friends!  You also get the chance to learn new skills to apply to your current job or possibly work for your desired agency in the future.  There are a ton of local agencies that need your help.  Here are a few to look into:

The Clean Tahoe Program – This non-profit organization is dedicated to keeping Tahoe clean in the interest of aesthetics and protecting our local wildlife.

The Sugar Pine Foundation – Save the sugar pines and Lake Tahoe by helping to plant fungus and disease resistant sugar pine trees.

Live Violence Free – This program assists people who have been affected by domestic abuse.  They have the H.E.A.R.T. program where you can use your skills to help your community.

Tahoe Magic – They provide many different kinds of assistance to South Lake Tahoe Families in need.  This program donates food, money, clothing, and christmas presents.

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care – LTWC plays a large part in keeping our local wildlife happy and healthy.  Ever hung out with a baby bobcat?  By volunteering here you may get your chance.  They need volunteers for feeding and providing community outreach.

Tahoe Heritage Foundation – One of the great parts of living in Lake Tahoe is all of the historical sites available for you to enjoy.  The Tahoe Heritage Foundation is responsible for maintaining many historical landmarks including the Tallac Historic Site and Taylor Creek Visitors Center.  They also educate people on what life was like for the first Tahoe locals.

The City of South Lake Tahoe – The city itself has a bunch of volunteer programs offered through The Recreation Center and the Senior Center.

Habitat for Humanity – This is one of my favorite charitable programs in Lake Tahoe.  They help people who are in need of repairs to their homes who otherwise wouldn’t be able to.  I highly suggest this program because of the opportunities to learn and meet great people.

Now it’s all up to you!  Our little community in South Lake Tahoe depends on us all to lift eachother up and help.  Lake Tahoe is an amazing place to live because of the awesome people and beautiful nature that surrounds us all.  The next step is to find something you’re interested in and go do it!
