Genoa is the oldest town in Nevada. Founded in 1851 this beautiful little community nestled between beautiful mountains and the Carson River Valley, this is a great place to spend a weekend. It just so happens that this weekend is the Annual Candy Dance Arts and Crafts Festival.
The Genoa Candy Dance began in 1919 as a fund raiser to install new street lights in the town. Women from the community made cakes and candy to distribute at the dance and midnight dinner. The event was such a success it became an annual tradition. That was great news for Genoa too because with it being a fund raiser they were able to pay for the electricity and maintenance costs for the new lights.
Now the Candy Dance has grown to have over 300 craft and food vendors. The dinner – dance is still part of the event, held at the Genoa Town Park on Saturday the 24th. Tickets for the dinner are $30 for adults and $20 for kids. Dance only tickets are $20 per person. You can buy tickets by contacting the Genoa Town Office at (775) 782-8696. The rest of the event is completely free for all to attend. Click here for Parking and shuttle information.
