Fallen Leaf Lake is one of the best outdoor playgrounds around Tahoe. With unparalleled beauty and easy access it qualifies as one of my favorite places in the world. There are tons of options to make a great weekend exploring and enjoying the great outdoors here. Situated at the north end of the lake, by Taylor Creek, is the Fallen Leaf Campground. This is a great option if you want to take a family trip and reconnect with nature. The campground features full camping facilities as well as Yurts, Cabins, and regular camping sites you can book. Click here for booking options. Remember to book as early as possible as this is a very popular campground and it fills up quickly!
There are also hiking options for everyone with any ability. Moraine Trail takes you around the perimeter of fallen leaf lake and is a great option for young children or if you are looking for a walk that doesn’t require a lot of effort. If you want to take it up a notch, The Clark Trail offers a challenge as well as a little bit of solitude as you make your way up to Angora Lakes. The Glen Alpine trail offers many options for places to explore depending on your ability. Click here for more information about trails around Fallen Leaf Lake.
The lake itself has a lot to offer as well! There is fishing, non-motorized and motorized boating, tubing, and swimming. You can rent a boat from Fallen Leaf Cabins and try out water skiing in the crystal clear waters. Click here for information about boat and cabin rentals. The fishing there is awesome. You have a chance at catching Kokanee Salmon and 3 different kinds of trout! There’s nothing better than catching your dinner before settling down at your campfire for a night of camaraderie with your family and friends.
Fallen Leaf Lake is a great place to get away from it all and discover your inner child as you explore this beautiful area. The backdrop of evergreens and Mount Tallac serve to make this place a truly special experience for everyone. The best part is that no matter how many times you go, there is a new place to discover. Whether it’s walking through past summer memories on a hike you’ve done before, or trying something new and pushing your limits to unearth what you are capable of, Fallen Leaf Lake has something to offer everyone!
