Last Saturday on August 27th, we had the Lake in the Sky Air Show 2011 event at the Lake Tahoe Airport. It was a beautiful sunny day (for most of the day) and a lot of families showed up with their kids and dogs. The public was able to get up close to several vintage Warbirds and military static display aircraft, including the Air Forces C-17 Globemaster, and the #1 rated fighter plane of WWII – the legendary P-51 Mustang. Plus many more Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marine Corp aircraft on display.
Homebuilt, experimental, Highway Patrol, CALSTAR, CAP and other aircraft were also invited to participate. And the ever-popular Flying 5K Run was back.
People were able to enjoy a hearty pancake breakfast offered by the Kiwanis Club in the morning and burgers and hot dogs was offered in the afternoon with all proceeds going to the kids in our local community here in South Lake Tahoe, CA.
There was a very entertaining air show featuring many of the country’s top aerobatic performers including living legends like Bill Cornick and Jon Melby. It was amazing to see Spencer Suderman defying gravity in his famous Pitts.
If you were not there you missed a hell of a show. Be sure to visit the Air Show next year for great fun and entertainment for the whole family!
